5 Tips For Better Mindfulness

What Does Mindfulness Mean?

Mindfulness is a powerful variation of meditation that can help individuals be more in tune with what they’re feeling and seeing at the moment. Especially with the everyday hustle and bustle that many endure and the uncertainty that was unleashed with the global pandemic, mindfulness can help reduce negative, tiresome thoughts that evoke stress and anxiety

To improve mindfulness in your life, here are five exercises to try:

 1. Live in the Present

Sure, it’s easier said than done, but do your best to live in the moment. Focusing on the present-day rather than the past or future can help improve mindfulness significantly. To start, set aside some time to meditate (even if it’s only for a few minutes) and focus on your breathing. Doing this will help you feel more in sync with yourself.

2. Scan Your Environment

As mentioned earlier, there’s a chance your day-to-day schedule is fast-paced and slightly overwhelming. Just like meditating, do your best to carve out some “me time” during the day and become more in tune with your surroundings. From touch to sight to smell and taste, focus on your senses to become more grounded.

3. Be Kind to Yourself

It can be pretty challenging for many to practice self-love, especially with the uprise of social media. While being “your own worst critic,” try your best to reassess how you’re treating yourself — is it the way you would treat a good friend of yours? If not, take a step back and be more loving and gentle with yourself.

4. Keep an Open Mind

Sometimes, our emotions can get the best of us in any situation — such as having a serious conversation with a loved one. Instead of reacting emotionally or “scripting” a response ahead of time in your mind, keep an open mind and fully digest what is being presented to you before responding. This can help deepen your relationship and make for a more favorable outcome for all parties involved.

5. Set Aside Time for Nature

Since there’s a chance you’re spending much more time indoors these days, make a conscious effort to venture out into nature. Walking through the great outdoors is an excellent way to help you disconnect from digital distractions and improve your relationship with mindfulness on a deeper level.
